Steps to Follow Before Turning Your A/C on This Spring
Below are the best practices when it comes to your cooling system.
Do a test run: Run your system for 10-15 minutes to ensure it is blowing cold air. If it emits a strange odor, makes a loud noise, or only produces hot air. You should immediately shut the A/C unit off and contact Homestead to have one of our experienced techs get it back in shape for the summer season.
Schedule an annual maintenance. We recommend cleaning your system once a year. This helps your system keep running at optimal performance and lowers operating costs. Having a professional maintenance annually will also increase the longevity of the system.
Clean/inspect the outdoor unit: Remove any debris from around the condenser. Clumps of leaves or dirt buildup can reduce the system’s efficiency.
Inspect indoor equipment: Check electrical connections, clean the indoor unit, and make sure the drain lines are in proper working order.
Check your ducts, vents, and air filters: One of the most important steps for upkeep is to replace the air filter on average twice a year. People with allergies or homes with pets may require a filter change more frequently.
